History

Know More About Us

It started with its modest cause of culture preservation through the promotion of the Gujarati Language. Real life teachers became Classroom teachers! Yes, self-motivated and encouraging mothers joined hands to teach Gujarati language. We received much needed and dedicated support of Mr. Glenn Walker, the then Principal of Girraween Public School, who allowed us the use of the school’s classrooms. It all started with one man’s dream of preserving Gujarati culture among migrant Australian Gujarati community!

Om Rameshwar Association Inc is overarching organisation of ORA Sydney Gujarati Grammar School. In 2016, through the efforts put in by Pinalkumar Patel, Rinkalbhai Patel and Viralbhai Mehta, Om Rameshwar Association Inc came into existence. Soon after ORA Sydney Gujarati Grammar School was founded under the principle program of the organisation. The school founded initial and ongoing support from six likeminded and selfless volunteer teachers. Since then the organisation has actively promoted Gujarati language and Gujarati culture in NSW.

ORA Sydney Gujarati Grammar School is a non-profit organisation and does not solicit funds publicly. We are mostly funded by donation from one of the founders of the organisation and ably supported by some grants received from the NSW Department of Education.

ORA Inc is operated by volunteers from a wide range of skills and backgrounds. With help of highly committed volunteer teachers, we run the Gujarati School at two separate locations. Currently we have a total student enrolment of over 100 students each year over more than 5 classes. We also run Adult classes separately. Children are assessed for proficiency and placed at suitable levels.

Om Rameshwar Association Inc and ORA Sydney Gujarati Grammar Schools stakeholders remain akin on the view of Gujarati to be introduced in Primary and Secondary Schools in the regular timetable. This will make Gujarati even more accessible to young learners across the state.

ORA Sydney Gujarati Grammar School is the first and only approved community language school that teaches Gujarati language to students. Our story of the beginning of this endless & fruitful journey was published first in media by renowned channel SBS.
